Mummy's Birthday

Dear Mummy,

Daddy says birthdays are about getting older, but if you have got older today Mum, don't worry, because you look loads better than this time last year when I first saw you. You were crying and shouting and putting on a right performance. In fact, if I remember rightly, you were making a total show of yourself, but I won't go on about that now, because it's your birthday, and I'm supposed be nice to you (which is a bit false if you ask me - but we can always revisit this tomorrow).

Anyway, I'm keen to see how today goes down, because it's my birthday this Thursday, so I'm expecting you to use this opportunity to rehearse, on a much smaller scale, the extravaganza you have up your sleeve for my big day.

And in light of my own impending festivities, I have pulled out the stops with my gift for you. I wanted it to be good, so that it would make you happy, and also so that my efforts would be noted when you go present shopping for me this week. I thought long and hard about the gift to go for.
Dad said personalised jewellery would be a winner, so I went with that. But it didn't feel quite 'right'. It wasn't endearing enough. It didn't look like much effort on my part - and what with the pressure of the blog and your potential acerbic comments forever looming, I needed to come up with something more. Then I hit on the key.
'Handmade'.
So with a bit of Dad's help, I put together this.

It's a notebook for you to record ideas in for your new career as a writer. It took me ages to remember how to spell your name, and even longer for me to make sure the pen marks I made in order to write my own were actually on the page, rather than on the table beneath them/up the side of my face/on Dad'd t-shirt sleeve.
But, for an 11 month old, and a first attempt at making my own book, you've got to agree, it blows that one you've written out of the water - and mine took me ten minutes. Just sayin'.

Happy birthday Mummy.
I think you're pretty, kind, clever and you do lots of funny, silly dances - all the most perfect reasons to love you very, very much.
Have a lovely day
Your Poop xxxxx
